Homeschool Cohort Sessions

Curriculum & Approach

My sessions are built around the science of reading, combining evidence-based practice with engaging, multisensory instruction.

Key components

  • Phonics & phonemic awareness activities: Systematic practice to help students recognize and manipulate sounds and link them to letters.

  • Guided writing and storytelling: Opportunities to apply decoding and encoding skills while developing voice, sentence structure, and narrative skills.

  • Building vocabulary and comprehension: Explicit instruction in word meanings, academic vocabulary, and comprehension strategies to support reading for meaning.

  • Structured skill-building scope & sequence: Carefully sequenced lessons that build foundational skills progressively and close gaps efficiently.

  • Orton-Gillingham–inspired approach: Explicit, sequential, and diagnostic teaching methods that support learners with dyslexia and other reading challenges.

  • UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute) resources: Lesson materials and activities aligned with UFLI’s evidence-based practices.

  • Multi-sensory learning: Tactile, visual, auditory, and kinesthetic activities to reinforce connections between sounds, letters, and meaning.

  • Parent communication: Regular updates, strategies for practice at home, and clear guidance to support student progress.

  • Progress updates: Ongoing formative assessment and periodic reports to track growth and inform instruction.

My approach is individualized and data-driven: my lessons are tailored to each student’s needs, progress is monitored closely, and instruction is adjusted to ensure steady growth in decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
